The following homebrewers will get the chance to brew their award winning beer’s with the following breweries:

Amsterdam – Geordan Saunders, Pain In The Rear
Beau’s – Jordan Rainhard, Armed N’ Citra
Indie Ale House – David Thompson, Black Belt IPA
Sawdust City – Chris Finnigan, Mystic Oyster Stout

2012 Toronto Beer Week Homebrew Competition Pro-Am Winners

Toronto Beer Week has posted on their website the results of the 2012 Toronto Beer Week Homebrew Competition. The following homebrewers will be brewing their winning recipes with some great Ontario breweries.

  • Kyle Teichert (Ruckus Wild Ale) to be brewed at Indie Ale House
  • Mike Bray (California Common) to be brewed at Granite Brewery
  • Kyle Teichert (Mondo Bongo Ale) to be brewed at BarVolo
  • David Thompson (Ra Ra Rasputin) to be brewed at Beau’s
  • Kyle Teichert (By The Beard Of Zeus Old Ale) to be brewed at Great Lakes Brewery
  • David Thompson (Samurai Sauvin Saison) to be brewed at Bellwoods
  • JP Tibensky (Belgian Stout) to be brewed at Amsterdam

Congratulations to all the winners. TBW also noted: “Judging notes will be posted for each entry on the beer registration site. An email will be sent shortly but login for a sneak peak!”

“We held the final round of judging at Amsterdam Brewery on Saturday, November 10th with some of Toronto’s best brewers deliberating over top 20 beers. With such a strong final lineup, it wasn’t easy to narrow down the best beers but after careful consideration, we are pleased to announce this year’s Toronto Beer Week homebrew competition final round winners:
Mike Bray
JP Tibensky
David Thompson
Kyle Teichert

ProAm brewing picks are still be confirmed between the brewers and over 20 secondary prizes (hops, gift certificates, brew kettle and more!) will be awarded shortly. We will be notifying all prize winning homebrewers with the details by email shortly!”

CBC Audio Clip from Learn2Brew @ Amsterdam Brewery

Another successful Learn2Brew event was held on Saturday hosted by the Southern Ontario Brewers.

CBC stopped in for a chat with several the brewers during the day, the audio clip can be listened to here.

“This past weekend, dozens of home brewers got together at the Amsterdam brewery here in Toronto, the beer company supplied space, hot water and yeast, the home brewers did the rest. Metro Morning contributor Loren McGinnis was there to speak to the hop heads about their craft.”

Across North America, the first Saturday of November is recognized as “Teach a Friend to Homebrew Day”, and the Southern Ontario Brewers recognize the date by hosting a Learn2Brew event.  In cooperation with Amsterdam Brewing, the Southern Ontario Brewers invite you to spend a day learning about homebrewing on Saturday 3.November 2012 at 45 Esandar Drive, in Toronto.  This group of homebrewers will be demonstrating a range of homebrewing techniques and equipment from single-vessel systems through larger 3-vessel breweries.  The group consists of novice homebrewers through professional brewers.
